The Graceful Gowns Initiative has been on my heart for much longer than most people realize. Nearly 20 years ago, I had the idea to start an organization called Princess and Pearls, focused on helping young ladies feel confident and celebrated during important moments in their lives. I’ve always been a bit of a girly girl, so the idea of creating something special for young ladies felt natural to me. But life took a different path — I started a family and became the proud mother of three amazing boys. While the idea never left me, the timing just wasn’t right.
Years later, the vision began to resurface. Around that time, I became familiar with the work of the Smahrt Girls Foundation, founded by my friend Pam Ellis. I admired what Pam was building and was preparing to become involved with her organization. Then in January 2024, Pam suddenly passed away. Her loss deeply affected me — not only because of the important work she was doing in the community, but because of our friendship. Losing Pam made me realize that when something is placed on your heart, you cannot keep waiting for the perfect time. (Continue below)
After Pam passed, I reached out to my friend Kelly Hodges and revisited the idea that had been sitting in my heart for years. Kelly immediately encouraged me to move forward and helped push me to get started right away. That conversation became the turning point that moved Graceful Gowns from an idea into action.
Within weeks, The Graceful Gowns Initiative was born.
In February 2024, I secured our 501(c)(3) nonprofit designation and began building the organization from the ground up. What might normally take months came together in just a few short weeks with the help of supportive friends, volunteers, and community partners.
By the end of March 2024, we had already collected gowns and established a partnership with Spring ISD. By April, we hosted our first Graceful Gowns Experience — and what started as an idea years ago had become a reality that was already changing lives.
Graceful Gowns was created to do more than provide dresses. It was built to make sure young ladies feel seen, supported, and confident during milestone moments that should never be defined by financial hardship.
Looking back, I believe Graceful Gowns came together exactly when it was meant to. What began as a dream years ago has grown into a mission — and we’re just getting started.

We believe every young lady, regardless of background or financial situation, deserves the opportunity to attend milestone events with confidence and grace.

We focus on building self-esteem, confidence, and personal growth through access to formal wear and skill-building workshops.

We nurture partnerships and volunteer networks to create a supportive environment that unites donors, mentors, and recipients.

We prioritize responsible sourcing and repurposing of formal wear, aiming to reduce waste and promote environmental stewardship.

We uphold honesty and transparency in our operations, ensuring that resources and support are effectively and ethically directed.
